Location
Just 47 miles northest of Manhattan, Westport is located on the Connecticut shore between Norwalk and Fairfield. Easy access to the Connecticut Turnpike, the Merrit Parkway and Metro North railroad, has made Westport a longtime haven for artistic professions.

History
Although colonists settled along the Saugatuck River in 1648, Westport wasn't created until 1835, with land taken from Fairfield, Weston and Norwalk. For several decades after that, Westport was a prosperous agricultural community, which distinguished itself as the nation's leading onion-growing center. It wasn't until after the turn of the century that Westport gained the reputation as an artist's colony and cultural center that is stills remains today.

Westport also offers five movie theaters, an arts center, a historical society, an area symphony, and over 70 free programs all summer long at the Levitt pavilion, and outdoor theater on the banks of the Saugatuck River.

Shopping
Westport's Main Street, lined with trendy shops and boutiques, has been called"The Rodeo Drive of Connecticut." More stores are located along the Post Road East and West. Malls are available in nearby towns.

Residential, Industrial and Commercial. Although Westport is zoned for industry, most of the town's businesses are retail and service oriented: there is virtually no manufacturing.

Despite the small-town charm, Westport is a thriving business center. Home to 15 corporate headquarters and 660 retailers, Westport's plentiful office space is always in demand. Careful zoning helps maintain a genial mix of business and pleasure.

Transportation
Westport's two railroad stations, Saugatuck and Greens Farms, provide frequent trains to New York City. The town also runs a bus system for residents at minimal cost.
